Due to high demand and popularity we are adding a second retirement seminar. In the past the retirement seminar has typically been held the first Saturday in October. Space is limited for the seminar and seats fill up quickly. The second seminar will be held on the first Saturday in April. The seminar will take place at the Union Hall in Lanham, MD, and will begin at 8 a.m.Please call Elizabeth in the Finance Office at 301-459-2900 to register as space will be limited.

Retirement takes some planning. You have essentially been planning for retirement since the day you joined our Local and began to earn your union pension. Every contribution made to your pension and Individual Annuity plan has been a step toward planning for your retirement. But, deciding when to retire takes some planning too.
It is important that you understand how long it takes for our Local Union office, the International office, and the National Electrical Benefit Fund (NEBF) office to process your request to draw upon your pension. This information is important in deciding when you will retire. After all, you wouldn’t want to retire without an income.
It is also important that you fully understand how much money you can expect to receive in retirement each month from the three pension plans, the IA plan, and Social Security. Transitioning from a regular weekly paycheck to a monthly allocation of your retirement funds can be unnerving. It’s hard not to worry at first that your retirement savings will run out and you will be without a source of income. Of course, with a better understanding of how pension payments work and some time getting used to your new way of life and the money you have available to live on, retirement will probably feel like the greatest thing you ever did.
It is also important that you understand how the funds work and the rules that govern the distribution of retirement funds.
To help you get comfortable with the transition into retirement and get your questions answered before you take the leap, I encourage you to attend the Local 26 Pension Seminar on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at the Lanham, MD, Union Hall. This annual seminar has grown to be quite popular and not to be missed if retirement is in your not-so-distant future. The seminar is open to all Local 26 members, even those still years from retiring. It is also open to all spouses of Local 26 members. In fact, spouses are strongly encouraged to attend.
The format for the seminar includes presentations delivered by representatives from our Finance and Benefits offices as well as a question and answer session where participants will have an opportunity to get their individual questions answered.
This seminar has filled to capacity in years past, so I encourage you to reserve your spot at the seminar ASAP by calling Elizabeth in the Finance Office at 301-459-2900 no later than March 23rd. The seminar will begin promptly at 8 a.m. and will last about four hours. Light refreshments will be served. The Pension Seminar is an opportunity to learn more and put yourself in total control of your retirement.
