Keep Your License active

Maintaining an active electrical license is critical for continuing work across Washington, DC, Virginia, and Maryland. This page outlines the steps and key deadlines for renewing your license in each jurisdiction—starting with the urgent DC license renewal deadline of November 30, 2025.

You’ll find links to renewal portals, class registration details, and contact info to help you stay compliant and avoid work disruptions. Be sure to renew on time and submit updated documentation to your employer before the next negotiated holiday.

DC License Renewal steps:

STEP 1

Visit the Access DC Renewal Portal

Go to: accessdc.dcra.dc.go

STEP 2

Sign in

STEP 3

Select Renew/Reinstate

Click on the Profile tab and choose Renew/Reinstate My License.

STEP 4

Complete the Form

Follow the on-screen instructions and fill out all required information.

STEP 5

Pay the Fee

Submit your application and pay the $110 renewal fee.

STEP 6

Print Your Confirmation

Print your payment confirmation for your records.

STEP 7

Download Updated License

Return to the My Licenses tab and download your renewed license.

STEP 8

Provide to Your Employer

Give a copy of your renewed license to your employer before the next negotiated holiday.

STEP 9

Deadline Reminder

This process must be completed by November 30, 2025.

VA license renewal classes are available in both Lanham and Manassas. The JATC offers this class six times a year:

Manassas: January, May, and September
Lanham: March (as part of the code seminar), July, and November

The class cost is $30. You must register through your TradeSchool account.
If you don’t have an account, visit the Night Class page for setup instructions.
Classes are listed under the Class Schedule tab in TradeSchool. To find them, search for “VA” in the search window to view class details.
