Apply for the Change of Classification Test to Move Into the Upgrade Program or Earn JW Status
Change of Classification Test:
Residential Electricians (REs) and Residential Wiremen (RWs) can take the Change of Classification Test to get into the Upgrade Program or, if they score high enough, go straight to Journeyman Wireman (JW) status.
Your test results will determine your eligibility and entry year for the Upgrade Program. An exceptional score could allow you to skip the program entirely and move directly to JW status.
How It Works:
Applications are reviewed by the Examining Board at scheduled meetings.
Once approved, you’ll be assigned the next available test date.
Important: Residential Electricians must provide a copy of their Journeyman’s License (issued by a local or state authority) to the Residential Referral Office to be reclassified as a Residential Wireman.
